Study.com is an award-winning curriculum trusted by teachers in 10,000+ districts nationwide. It provides expert-produced micro-lessons with flashcards, quizzes, chapter tests, and lesson plans, equipping teachers with the tools they need to deliver the best outcomes for their students with proven and innovative learning strategies. Expert instructors break down concepts with bite-sized, animated video lessons that improve comprehension and retention, making learning fun and engaging. Students can watch the videos, read along with the transcript, or simply listen to the material—whatever works for them.
While watching these videos, students could benefit from the following tips and tricks:
-
Pause the video often and take notes. To ensure that they're not missing anything, students will find it useful to pause after major points are made, take notes, and then resume the video.
-
Stop and go back to repeat important or confusing points. One effective way for students to learn confusing concepts will be to repeat sections that they're having trouble understanding. Watching an example or listening to a definition multiple times can help with comprehension and understanding.
-
Use closed captioning. If students are having trouble hearing the video, or aren't sure what a narrator it saying, the captions of a video can be very useful. One study showed closed captions and interactive transcripts in online courses can boost student performance, focus, and information retention.
-
Speed up or slow down the play speed of a video. If a student finds that the pace of a video is too slow for them and they're finding it boring, setting the video play speed to 1.25x or 1.5x can be useful. Conversely, if the video is moving too fast, slowing the video down to .75x or .5x can help slow the pace of the information and could help students absorb the information more clearly.
-
Use the timeline to find important information. Whether the student is on their first watch or they're re-watching a video, using the Timeline option to find specific information can help students narrow in on certain topics they want to learn or re-watch.
Each lesson is followed up by a 5-question multiple choice quiz to check for understanding. These quizzes come with explanations for answers when a student gets a question wrong and will direct them back to the point in the video that explains the concept behind the question. Since Epic Edventures Academy utilizes the flipped classroom model of teaching and adheres to the philosophy that homework is an effective method for reinforcing learning and knowledge acquisition, your instructor will routinely use these scores as a homework grade.

College Credit Transfer
Study.com also offers more than 220 courses recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) in addition to its regular and AP high school courses.
As the nation's leading authority on higher education issues and policy, the American Council on Education (ACE) is charged with evaluating nontraditional forms of learning for transfer credit recommendation. Thousands of universities and colleges across the nation trust ACE recommendations when determining transfer course equivalencies to their institutions.
The National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) evaluates non-collegiate learning experiences for possible college credit recommendations. They provide access to a variety of educational opportunities to non-traditional students by recognizing learning that occurs outside of the college classroom.
All of the college/dual-credit course at Epic Edventures Academy have been evaluated and recommended by ACE for 3-4 semester hours and may be transferred to over 2,000 nationally and regionally accredited, as well as two icons.
